About Us June 10, 2009

Welcome to Conservation Conversation! This page has a plethora of info… ABOUT US! From the very beginnings to the very present.

Humble ( And Rather Unexpected) Beginnings

Not so long ago, in a far, far, away… (ahem)… in a teensy-weensy Middle-Tenessee galaxy… (ahem)… town. In 2006, a group of determined citizens, hatched a revolutionary rooster of an idea: Sonnenschein! A mere festival focusing in on alternative energy, art, and home-spun music. Along with a little hatchling, the Sonnenschein Green Initiative, a local initiative to promote and localize the economy. It was a hoedown of a festival for three consecutive years. Over this time, the festival held forty-five green speakers, Alernative Energy Expos, Eco-film fests and a bunch of other way coolio things. Over these three years, one theme of the festival grew, and grew, and grew, and grew, and grew, and… you get the idea.  Twas the Alternative Energy. In October 2008 the Sonnenschein Green Initiative held a Green Business Summit.

Passengers, Prepare for Take Off.

On March 16th, 2009.  Lewis County Chamber of Commerce, accepted a Transition Proclamation. And guess what? It proclaimed! To be more specific, the Proclamation, proclaimed that Hohenwald was officially the 25th Transition Town in the U.S. of A. In fact, four of our team members helped in the writing process of the proclamation. You can check it out here. Pretty sweet, huh?

The Quest Continues (Quest! Quest! Quest!)

Today,  members of the Sonnenschein Green Inititative have taken action in their community (Community Garden, Farmer’s Market). While taking our Enviromental Science course, our teachers made the Sonnenschein Green Intitiative, part of our lab. We call ourselves (and we hope you do too)… the Green Alliance, and we are a group of students who are taking steps to help our community in its effort to become more eco-friendly. This blog has been set up to relate the goings on in our community and inspire people to aid us in our quest! (Quest! Quest! Quest!) As members of our local green initiative (Sonnenschein Green Initiative), we will post the dates and locations of our meetings. When we post, feel free to comment, if you know more on the topic or are interested in it. Constructive criticism is always welcomed and encouraged.

God bless, and live green!
